James' 10th (!!) Birthday

We have officially been parents for a full decade. Pretty crazy that James is in the 2 digits now. He had a great birthday getting a new bike, fancy new pocket knife, remote control car from Gma Harvey and a Lego Creator set from Gma Urie.

Hyrum and I surprised him at school the day before his birthday to take him out to lunch which was really fun. We went to Thunder Cloud subs which he loves. The actual day of his birthday, his class went on a field trip which is always exciting.

He played baseball with some friends after school and then we headed to Magnolia Café for dinner. Where James order the "full stack" of pancakes like he is always begging to do. He made it through one of the three pancakes before he was too full to eat anymore. One of the managers there gave all the kids t-shirts also so it was a fun eating out experience. Home for cake and ice cream and bed.

Happy Birthday James!!

Hyrum Talk

Hyrum was looking at a picture of lightning McQueen and he breathed out "huuh, huuh, huuh" I wasn't sure what he was doing and then he said "peed" for speed. He kept doing it like in the first of the Cars movie. "Huuh, huuh, huuh. Peed. Huuh, huuh, huuh. Peed." It was hilarious.

Every time we drive into our apartment complex we drive past his friend Lincoln's house. He yells "Linky house. I wanna go Linky house." Then today when we got out of the car he started yelling "Linky!!" calling for him.

At dinner there's a general uproar of noise all the time. Hyrum always wants to get James' attention and yells "dames, dames!" Once he has James looking at him he will say while laughing "no. no" like he is correcting him and then a whole bunch of gibberish no one understands.

After the kids got out if the car this morning he yelled "I want kiss Dames!"

Tubes

Since Hyrum's had so many ear infections you decided to get tubes in his ears. This is him in the waiting room yesterday while we waited to go back.

He did so great especially since he couldn't eat breakfast. When we went back I asked the doctor if they would start the anesthesia before or after they took him from me. When he said they couldn't start it till after I said good luck he's going to be really mad. He said most moms say that but usually the kids are fine and they're curious and looking around. I said I highly doubt that will be Hyrum. I think he will scream until you knock him out. The doctor said only about 10% of kids are like that I assured him that Hyrum would be in 10%. Sure enough when the doctor came to talk to me in the recovery room the first thing he said was boy he was mad!

The actual surgery was only about maybe 15 minutes from when he was peeled out of my arms to when the doctor came in and then about five minutes later Hy was back with me. He recovered really well from the anesthesia and he did great all day.

Hopefully this really gets rid of all his ear infections and helps him to be able to hear and speak better.

Home Again Home Again

The drive home was terrible. The roads form Albuquerque to Lubbock were awful. Super snowy with minimal to no plowing. Got stuck in Santa Rosa, NM for a couple hours due to an accident closing the road. So we finally stopped to see the Blue Hole. It was pretty cool. 81 feet deep spring and there were even a few scuba divers despite the snow all over the ground. Then we had some excellent Mexican food and finally continued on our way.

Matthias and Hannah both had fevers and Hyrum was just plain sick of the car. He was so happy to be back in his own bed.

Utah Trip

Here are a bunch of photos from our last few days in Utah. Dinner with the Harveys. Stories with Leigh and Todd.  Hyrum with various grandparent. He was a charmer on this trip. Totally in love with everyone! So much better than last year clinging to Taylor.

Matthias produced a play with the other kids on New Years Day. They spent a few hours making the background and Gma and Gpa Brough made it just in time for the show. My parents also came by later in the day and saw the play as well.
