Father's and Son's Campout

This year was Matthias first year to go and he was ecstatic. I made the mistake of putting the new Spiderman backpack I bought him Thursday night at the foot of his bed. So he was up at 4 am playing with it. I don't know that he ever when back to sleep. By 7 he was dressed with his backpack packed and ready to go.

Then Taylor left for work to his great distress. "But is it a short day?" (Taylor got half days every Friday). So I assured him it was a short day and dad would be home soon.

He spent the rest of the day wearing his backpack around. I had him take a nap before he could go. A couple hours later he came downstairs with his backpack still on. (my mom got a picture of this, but sadly I didn't).

They finally left around 5 pm. The boys had an absolute blast. Their best friend Ryan came and the three of them went off exploring all night. The dads told them they could only go 3 trees away and off they went happy as little boys can be. The next morning they got to try out a zip line and loved that. They had a such a wonderful time hanging with Dad!

My family was in town, but I still made it to bed at 10pm, turned on my window fan for white noise and to actually have one night sleeping with a quilt rather than sweating to death. Flipped on Hannah's monitor and slept 9 amazing hours with no interruptions. Heaven.

I think we should have Father's and Son's a couple times a year...

Must Use Buttons

Buttons are so stinkin' cute and I've been dying to have a use for some. So I came up with this dress for Hannah. Big, fat hot pink buttons. Perfect.

James Speak

This morning I was reading scriptures and James was sitting next to me so I started reading out loud. We were in Mosiah where Zeniff and his people are fighting the Lamanites. Then I told James Zeniff dies and makes his son Noah king.

James: UH! He makes his people wicked. I didn't know he was Zeniff's son. I have to tell Matt.

(he runs in the room, Matthias was still in bed)

James: Guess what? Zeniff was a king and his people fought the Lamanites and they trusted in the Lord. Do you know who his son was? (dramatic pause) Noah. Do you know who he is? It's not the one that built a boat.

Matthias Chatter & James Speak

Taylor talking to Matthias after he left the fridge open again as he usually does multiple times daily...

Taylor: You have to shut the fridge. What do you think keeps the food good?
Matthias: Umm, prayers?

The boys climbed onto the roof of the storage shed in our yard.

James: We used all our braveness to get up here.
Me: So is your braveness all gone now? How will you get down?
James: No, it's still inside of us.
Matthias: I have 100 braveness.

My House This Afternoon

Hannah was in her crib in her bedroom so I don't have a picture of her. Aren't they cute? 2 mile bike ride.

Nuture Shock

I'm reading an incredible book called Nurture Shock. This afternoon I was starting a chapter entitled, "Why Siblings Fight". I told the boys I was going to read a book and the part I was on was about why they fight, so maybe the could just tell me and I wouldn't have to read it.

Matthais' prompt answer, "we fight cuz we want the toys James and me have." (meaning we want each other's toys.

Findings from the book...80% of sibling fights, according to the siblings themselves, are over material possessions.

Smart kids I have.

Seriously though, it's a really good book with great insights. One of the better parenting books I've read, although it's not necessarily meant as such but more just as a cool findings book. Has info on self-control, teen rebelliousness, 'gifted' children, acquiring verbal skills, sleep, etc.
