Legoland--Part 2

These are mostly pictures of Miniland. Each display was a famous building or area from countries in Southeast Asia. All of them were amazing of course. I loved the Singapore one simply because it was familiar. Angkor Wat was cool and also a lot of the temples from other countries. The huge display of Kuala Lamper in Malaysia was neat and made us wish we had plans to go there as well!

Also a few pictures from other rides and the kids absolute favorite--the Dragon Ride. They rode it a couple times and then at the end when the park was about to close they got on and rode I think 6 times in a row without even having to get off.

And the last two pictures are in the Malaysian customs building we went through at the border.

Legoland--Part 1

Legoland has to be blogged in two parts because we took about 3000 pictures.

We started the day early by catching the causeway link bus conveniently right by house. The drive wasn't that long but we had to stop at customs on both sides of the border. Once we got to Malaysia we just grabbed a taxi over to Legoland.

Just arriving was super cool--the kids were beyond excited. We got there just before it opened and got to wander around looking at some Lego statures. Then get on a couple of rides right when they opened. We went on a Tuesday after summer holidays ended so it was pretty quiet. We almost never had to wait in line and most rides the kids were able to go right back on or just stay on for another round. It was a perfect day to be there.

I would say this was definitely one of the highlights of the kids entire summer. Everyone was in heaven all day long. They were just so excited and happy and it was a great day. Totally lived up to all their expectations. We had a ton of fun.

We also went to the Lego water park for a couple hours in the afternoon, but didn't take any pictures there. Also had a great time. Hyrum loved going on the little slides in the shallow pool and the Duplo animals they had there. There was a lazy river with giant Legos floating in it and small boards on the tubes so you could build as you floated. Then a bunch of water slides that the kids really enjoyed.

When we were all done we got a wonderful pancake dinner and headed back home on the causeway bus. It was a long, exhausting day. And totally worth it!

Haha, this picture makes me laugh now. If only we had known this was a foreshadowing of what was to come in just a couple weeks.

Dim Sum, Ice Kachang

On Friday night we went out for dim sum. All the kids loved the dumplings and the vegetarian dim sum. Only Hyrum liked the other two kinds though...sesame and red bean. I love the texture of the buns and thought they were yummy. Very rich though. We also got red bean, chocolate lava dumplings which were delicious. Lots of fun yummy food here.

And an ice kachang from the local hawker court. Like a snow cone with jello bits, red beans, and palm seeds at the bottom. Interesting but tasty. Mmm.

Ubin Island

Super, super cool. About a 10 minute boat ride off the coast. Took us about 1.5 hours to get to the ferry from our house.

Ubin is a little island where you rent bikes and ride all over. We are lunch and then rented some bikes. We saw wild boars roaming around and monkeys running in the trees. Walked along he boardwalk. It was so beautiful peddling through the jungle.

There was every type of bike imaginable...tandem with a baby seat, adult bike w kid seat and a baby seat. Serious any combo you could think of. Hyrum totally conked out at one point. It was pretty funny Taylor trying to hold his head up while riding. The boys did awesome and I rode with Hannah in a little jump seat. I don't think I have been on a bike for 15 years, but it was way easier than I expected.

Stopped at the beach for a few minutes after getting back to the mainland. Then had fried carrot cake, oyster omelet, and prawns for dinner. The kids spit out the oyster. And the guys at the next table were laughing.  They brought over a leechee fruit for each of the kids. We definitely stuck out a lot more than we do downtown where there are lots of white people and foreigners.

Great, exhausting day.
