Ankgor Wat

After lunch we went to Angkor Wat. It was pretty spectacular and huge! The kids loved walking along the path to the temple--it's set very far back. We walked past lots of stalls selling goods. I paused under some trees a ways off since Hyrum was asleep in the sling. Some Cambodian boys, probably around 14, came up and talked to me for a bit. We saw this cute little boy running around naked playing with a stick near the stalls. Such a wonderful scene all of it.

Inside the walls of the temple the kids were able to climb up into the library which they thought was really neat. Then in the center is a high tower where ceremonies were held. Only those older than 12 were allowed up so we took turns going up. It was super steep and scary and high but neat inside. There were 4 pools I believe for bathing and some more statues.

At this point it started raining so Kathy and I hurried down since we were already leary of the steep steps when they were dry. Taylor and Bryan got stuck at the top for a bit until the ran stopped enough for them to come down because it was a torrential rain storm at the point they got up. The kids enjoyed playing in the hallways and windows and puddles across the courtyard while we waited.

Ta Prohm

Next we saw the Ta Prohm ruins which was my favorite because of all the big trees and how green it was. There were lots of young children around trying to sell flutes or magnets or guide books or anything. It was really sad to see them in such poverty and trying so hard to earn just a dollar. "2 for one dollar lady"

After that we headed to lunch and had my first taste of delicious mango shake. Mmm. Also the Khmer curry is so tasty. Loved all the food we ate in Cambodia!

Angkor Thom

In Cambodia our main attractions were Angkor Wat and some of the other ruins/temples there. We arranged for the branch president in Cambodia to drive us around in his van and a member of the ward was our tour guide. It was a long day, but very interesting and cool. We learned a lot about the history of Cambodia and saw some really beautiful and amazing sites. The pictures will be in 3 different posts because I took about a billion.

The first site we went to was Angkor Thom and all the pictures in this post are from there.

Angkor Boutique Hotel

Just some pictures from our hotel and the view out our balcony. It was a beautiful place. The staff was super friendly and thought we were pretty funny with all our kiddos. When you walk in the hotel you leave your shoes on the porch and just walk barefoot or with socks.

The kids, especially Matthias  endeared themselves to the tuk-tuk drivers. The kids loved riding on them, as did us adults. We went to the Night Market and had some yummy dinner and looked around a little. Bought some cool elephant pants and such. And found this really loud lizard in our room make so much chirping noise and running along the walls.
