I have been postponing blogging anything until I did James' birthday, so I better get it up before our whole life passes by...
Last Friday he turned four! I can't believe it. Started the morning opening presents and having pancakes for breakfast. We have Music Makers on Fridays and I was in charge last month so we took cupcakes for snacks. Spent the day playing and having fun. For dinner James requested Cheesy Chicken. Yum. Then we did cake and ice cream. Simple and lots of fun. We don't do parties...I really don't like people giving my kids presents (grandparents excepted) and they don't listen to me when I tell them not too, so I've just given up on parties all together. It's the safest way to avoid gifts. =] James got tons as it is and we had a blast. Matthias gave him a couple knights and Taylor and I gave him the Planet heroes rocket along with two new planet heroes and a book about dinosaurs. With his birthday money he bought a transformer. A very boy birthday!
He was adamant that he get a space cake and being almost 9 months pregnant and tired this is the result...not pretty, but everything he hoped for. Boy was he excited. Too bad the standard will probably raise...
And let me tell you, a friend said her little boy became an angel at four and I have heard so many good things about four. The last week has been wonderful! James gets dressed by himself, he buckles himself in the car, both boys have started making their own pb&honey, he helps Matthias. I think I can get used to four.

So I have something to look forward to huh? Good to know!
i love the rocket cake. pretty awesome. :) i hope four is everything you've ever dreamed of.
Did you get a new piece of furniture? I see a white, antique-ish looking buffet/hutch dealio in the background of one of the pics...
I saw that furniture too, Kim; looks pretty cool. Happy Birthday James. I'm impressed you made a cake and it was adorable too. So far I have loved four too. My kids are so independent at that age--it's perfect!
I like your party policy. One of my sisters just does "family" parties, except for the kids' 8th, 12th, and 16th birthdays they can have a "friend" party.
I like the cake. It's probably more than I'll ever do. I'm just not much into decorating, but we'll see once kids start begging...
HB James!!! Congratulations on becoming so grown-up. I know Matthias looks up to you and I'm sure Hannah will not be far behind in cherishing her big brother!
