Clever Boy

For the last couple weeks Matthias will wake up in the morning (anytime between 4:30 and 6:00 am) and bring us a diaper and wipe...or at least stand at the door holding one if it's been locked. I've thought how odd that is, but can you really refuse a two year old wanting his diaper changed?

Finally the other day it dawned on me what was happening...

We generally lock the boys' door at night or Matthias will come out and wander around the house at crazy hours. We've found him on the counter, stove, our medicine cabinet, etc. Clearly it is safer to keep him in the bedroom. However, James obviously has to get out to use the bathroom so if he needs to go he'll just knock on the door and we let him out to go potty. Matthias doesn't have this luxury and just gets stuck in there until morning.

Isn't my two year old so clever? More so than me. He figured out the way to escape the room...using the potty. Hence the diaper each morning. And it worked for him every morning when I would let him out to change his diaper.

What a smart little boy.

Still Waiting

Wouldn't you want to come to this cute and inviting space? I know the curtain is hideous, but other than that...isn't it tempting? Apparently Hannah Mae is not convinced. Maybe tomorrow?

My grandmother slept in this cradle. We got it about three years ago, but stripping it of the pink lead paint, sanding, refinishing, staining, reconstructing etc turned out to be hours and hours of work. And cost probably more than our crib when all was said and done. But Taylor did an amazing job don't you think? I think it's beautiful.

We told the boys this morning that whoever prayed had to pray for Hannah to come. James volunteered..."We want Hannah to come today. Bless Mom to have a big day with Hannah. Bless her to do a good job."

Matthias Chatter

When we went out to eat with Tom and Tamara (Taylor's aunt and uncle) they drove in a separate car. When we got in our car Matthias said "Where Grandpa?"

Matthias is totally unpredictable on colors. Sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong. But after one morning naming five things correctly throughout the morning I started getting suspicious. The next day I asked him about his green shirt...

Me: What color is your shirt?
Matthias: Gree...Red!

Ahh, ha. He then named off the correct colors for several other items. I think he's totally tricking us. Silly boy.

James Speak

Where's Hannah? (runs and looks in our room) Where's Hannah? You said she'd be here in the morning. (didn't we wish)

James: Where are your leg pits? What is covering up the poop?
Me: Your bum.
James: No (grabbing his behind), these fat things right here.

(after asking if he wants to help Dad) No, I'm too busy.

(while praying) Bless Hannah that's she'll have fun coming out.

I had a scary dream. It was too scary.

(when I woke him up one night) What, do I need to go to the bathroom or something?

Me: I'm going to make dinner when we get home. What are you going to do?
James: Run around like crazy and whack each other in the tummy.
Me: Are you going to hurt each other?
James: Yes.
Matthias: NO!
Me: That doesn't sound good. Don't hurt each other.
James: But we're boys. Girls don't wrestle but boys do.
Me: You have to ask Matthias .
James: You want to wrestle?
Matthias: Yes.

P.S.

I could really use an Ambien. Where's Mandy when you need her?

What Fun Will Come Tomorrow?

Warning (and spoiler): This will be long and detailed without a baby actually being born at the end...

Sunday during Relief Society I actually was feeling contractions every 10 minutes, but I kept it to myself assuming nothing would come of it. For the next six hours I had light contractions every 10 minutes. I still refused to get my hopes up and continued on with my day. By 9:30 pm they were coming every 6 minutes. Taylor and I got some things ready, but I still stayed un-hopeful. From about 10:30 - midnight they were coming every four minutes, but still not painful. I woke up at 1:30 surprised I had fallen asleep for an hour and a half. At that point they started in at about every five minutes.

From 2:30 to 5:30 they were coming every five minutes. I got up and walked. I sat down and read. I got back in bed. Still coming. Getting slightly more intense, but not at all painful.

This is when my hopes started to rise.

Foolish I know, but after 15 hours total and 3 hours of five minutes apart wouldn't you think something was actually about to happen?

Then they started to taper. By 7:30 am I was having zero contractions. Nothing else happened all day. I had gotten 90 minutes of sleep the night before and I was exhausted! Luckily Taylor worked from home and I was able to sleep for several hours in the middle of the day. By last night we were both so tired. I got in bed while Taylor was tucking the boys in. We were both asleep by 8:15.

Which is a good thing because this morning at 5 am James woke us up and was whining and crying. So I stood up to shut the door so he wouldn't wake up Matthias and I swore I peed my pants. That's weird. Not enough water for my water to be breaking, that I was sure of. So I headed into the bathroom to find my underwear full of blood. Wonderful. Then I passed a clot the size of a golf ball. Taylor grabbed the boys, I got dressed and we jumped in the car.

After dropping the boys off at the wonderful Nottinghams we headed to the hospital. While en route, my doctor called back and said we didn't need to be too concerned yet and could wait at home for 30 minutes to see if the bleeding cleared up.

Me: Even with that big of a clot?
Doctor: I would consider a big clot like the size of...of you liver.
Me: Really? I would consider that DYING!

A liver? Come one! I think most people would be really freaking out if they lost that big a chunk of blood. At least passing out. Anyways...

Turns our the nurses and the next on call doctor were more concerned. We got in and they were worried the baby was no longer head down so I got an ultra sound. The baby was head down, but I have a low lying placenta (which we knew because we had several ultrasounds to check for placenta previa). And low lying placentas can cause some bleeding. Now we know.

Then about 10 minutes later the ultrasound nurse came back after looking at my strip noticing I had been having some uterine activity. Well I could have told her that. Funny no one thought to ask me if I was having contractions. Consult the all knowing strip. Meaning that possibly I was having an abruption (the placenta detaching).

So then they said IV and I said no way. I won that battle thankfully and by then my doctor had showed up and told them they could stop withholding food from the poor, starving pregnant woman. And we stayed for four more hours (7 total) to be monitored and make sure I wasn't having an abruption. Luckily the doctor thought everyone and everything looked good so we were able to come home.

Here we are. Wondering what other excitement Hannah will bring before she gets here. We'll be so sleep deprived by the time she shows up that staying up all night with her should be second nature. Hopefully she'll follow her brothers' lead and sleep six hours in a row from day one.

Four is Magical

I have been postponing blogging anything until I did James' birthday, so I better get it up before our whole life passes by...

Last Friday he turned four! I can't believe it. Started the morning opening presents and having pancakes for breakfast. We have Music Makers on Fridays and I was in charge last month so we took cupcakes for snacks. Spent the day playing and having fun. For dinner James requested Cheesy Chicken. Yum. Then we did cake and ice cream. Simple and lots of fun. We don't do parties...I really don't like people giving my kids presents (grandparents excepted) and they don't listen to me when I tell them not too, so I've just given up on parties all together. It's the safest way to avoid gifts. =] James got tons as it is and we had a blast. Matthias gave him a couple knights and Taylor and I gave him the Planet heroes rocket along with two new planet heroes and a book about dinosaurs. With his birthday money he bought a transformer. A very boy birthday!

He was adamant that he get a space cake and being almost 9 months pregnant and tired this is the result...not pretty, but everything he hoped for. Boy was he excited. Too bad the standard will probably raise...

And let me tell you, a friend said her little boy became an angel at four and I have heard so many good things about four. The last week has been wonderful! James gets dressed by himself, he buckles himself in the car, both boys have started making their own pb&honey, he helps Matthias. I think I can get used to four.
