We checked out several of the Sir Cumference books yesterday from the library and they are great! While James did get a little bored during the math (mostly geometry) discussions at the end, the rest of the book was entertaining and fun. We got Sir Cumference and the Isle of Immeter and Sir Cumference and the Sword in the Cone.
Another book we happened upon at the library is The Bugliest Bug which turned out to be a fun read!
Also, I am looking for any one's suggestions on short chapter books/series to read with James. We read The Spiderwick Chronicles recently and he LOVED them. Something about 100 pages long and fairly simple. We also really enjoy the Magic Treehouse series. These two series claim they are for 9-12 and 4-8, so anything in that range.
Let me know if you have great ideas! Thanks and happy reading!

I recommend the "Great Brain" series by John D. Fizgerald. They might be a little too old for him, but definitely take a look. Ryan read them when he was a kid, and I read them a few years ago since he would often tell me bits and pieces of them. Good boy books.
I loved the Ramona books. Yes, they're about a girl but she is always getting into trouble so it's always entertaining.
At least I thought so. Wow. What kind of time increments do you read to James in? 15 minutes? 20 minutes? 30 minutes? RJ's attention span for books has decreased since February 1st and I'd like to regain any ground lost. Will you post some of your suggestions?
Thanks!
That is awesome that he is such a good listener and is preparing to be an amazing reader. He is very advanced, it's true. Has he started reading books to you?
He might enjoy Flat Stanley, Boxcar Kids, Little House on the Praire (my 3rd grade boys loved all the outdoors, camping, hunting stuff so don't gender stereotype it because of the main characters), Magic School Bus, and Bunnicula (this should feed into your passion for Twilight!)
If you want a list of books he might like reading to you, let me know if you want some recommendations there.
How thoroughly impressive James is!
